The most talked about topic when it comes to Juan Manuel Marquez besides his upcoming fight with Timothy Bradley is a possible fifth fight with his arch nemesis Manny Pacquiao. After his knockout victory over Pacquiao, Marquez has been continuously asked if he would fight Pacquiao again.

During his last Los Angeles media day, Marquez was made aware that if he beat Bradley Saturday night and if Pacquiao defeated Brandon Rios in November, the demand for a fifth fight would once again be brought up.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I’m fighting this Saturday and Pacquiao will fight in November. I don’t know what’ll happen. I need to wait and see how things [turn out]. I think the chapter with Pacquiao is closed. I think so. The fifth fight doesn’t interest me” said Marquez.

Marquez has said that he wants to keep the memory and victory over Pacquiao intact when he walks away from the sport. Even though the Pacquiao fight would equal the biggest paycheck available to him, Marquez says there are things more important than the money.

“The money is important in life but the most important for me is honor and pride and [for] everyone to know what happened in the fourth fight. I want to keep that great moment for all my life” Marquez would tell the media surrounding him.

Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach had been very vocal about Marquez refusing to give Pacquiao a fifth fight as he said they gave Marquez his rematches after their victories. BoxingScene asked Marquez what his thoughts were surrounding Roach’s comments.

“I want to say something that’s the most important to me. If I won the fight with a close decision, I would give the fifth fight. I would sign the contract right after the fight. But I won [by knockout] with a great victory for me so I don’t sign the contract” Marquez would tell BoxingScene.

The stunning knockout seems to have not only definitively ended their fourth fight but also one of boxing’s best rivalries.

WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley explains why he took a pass on a Manny Pacquiao rematch and selected former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez as his next opponent. The fight is scheduled to take place on October 12th at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. HBO Pay-Per-View will carry the fight.

Question: Bradley – Why did you choose Marquez as your next opponent instead of a rematch with Pacquiao?

Bradley: I have always been more interested in looking for new challenges than in doing what has been expected.  Though I was offered a rematch with Manny Pacquiao in Macau, the opportunity to fight another legend of my era — Juan Manuel Márquez — had far more appeal to me for several reasons.

Márquez is a boxing legend and a Méxican icon. He is coming off a career-best victory over his professional nemesis Manny Pacquiao. I am coming off my two career-best victories — over Pacquiao and Ruslan Provodnikov. It just made sense for me to fight Márquez next. Bradley vs. Márquez — a battle between the only two fighters to have beaten Manny Pacquiao in the past seven years. It got me excited as a fighter and as a fan. It was a no-brainer for me.

Challenges are what I am all about. They invigorate me. And the chance to fight Márquez in front of his legion of loyal Hispanic fans?  Heck, I’m riding that wave. I live for a fight like this. He wants to make history by being the first Méxican fighter to win five world titles in five different weight divisions. Chávez, Morales and Barrera never did that. I know he wants to make history. But I want to make my own history and beating Márquez and denying him of his ultimate goal, in the boxing capital of the world, will do just that.

If Manny Pacquiao can beat Brandon Rios in November than maybe we can have our rematch after that fight.  But timing is everything and the time for Bradley vs. Márquez is NOW.  I choose the battles I want to fight and I want to fight Márquez. This is my time.

24/7 Bradley/Marquez debuts Sat., Sept. 28 on HBO immediately after World Championship Boxing tripleheader.

Bradley vs. Marquez welterweight title fight takes place Sat., Oct. 12 live on HBO Pay-Per-View beginning at 9:00pm ET/6:00pm PT.

The World Boxing Organization will make a special belt for the winner of what promises to be an all-out action fight between “Fighter of the Decade” Manny Pacquiao and exciting Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios at the Cotai Arena in the sprawling Venetian Resort Hotel on November 24.

WBO Asia Pacific vice president Leon Panoncillo announced that Pacquiao and Rios will fight for the WBO International welterweight title and “a special belt is being made for the winner” of what both Panoncillo and WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel said one of “the most spectaculatr events in the world. It will be huge.”

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum who joined the two fighters and their trainers on a promotional tour which kicked off in Beijing on Monday and will have a press conference on Tuesday, said he expects the television coverage “to reach more people than the last Olympic Games in China (in 2008)” even as the fights being staged in Macau now emphasizes that the world is a very small place.”

Pacquiao and former world champion raced up the Great Wall of China, one of the great wonders of the world, Monday in Beijing, China.

Both fighters are making a stop in Beijing as part of their world-wide media tour which will also include stops in Shanghai, Singapore, New York and finally ending up in Los Angeles.

Arum promised that the Top Rank card on November 24 “will be outstanding because Pacquiao vs Rios is a very exciting title fight.”

Arum emphasized that Macau “is not just about gaming, it’s about bringing all sorts of entertainment and this event will do that.”

He said “people will be coming from all over, especially from the Philippines” which is less thnan two hours away by plane and since the Venetian “will be offering special packages for fans from the Philippines” where Pacquiao is not merely a two-term congressman but a hero to millions.

MACAU – An army of journalists and television crews gathered inside to the Venetian Ballroom for the official launching and press conference for the highly anticipated return of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, who will face Brandon ‘Bam Bam’ Rios of Oxnard, California in a twelve round welterweight clash on November 24. This fight is set for a Sunday morning at the Cotai Arena in Macau and will be aired to the U.S. on November 23 Saturday evening.

Pacquiao arrived here Friday with his wife Jinkee, who was recently elected as the Vice Governor of Sarangani.

pac-rios.macau.pc.130727.11.600wjpg“I want to thank God for another chance to fight again,” the 34 year old two-term congressman said. He also thanked Top rank, the Venetian Hotel and his better half. Pacquiao (54-5-2, 38 KO’s) hasn’t fought since December 8, 2012, when he suffered a sixth round knockout loss at the hands of his arch nemesis, Juan Manuel Marquez.

pac-rios.macau.pc.130727.10.500w

“It will be a good fight,” Pacquiao continued, “Rios likes to fight toe to toe. There will be a lot of action inside the ring. I pray to God that no one will get hurt. Macau is near the Philippines, so I expect more Filipinos than Mexicans watching this fight.”

The 27 year old Rios (31-1-1, 23 KO’s), who previously won belts at lightweight and junior welterweight, relishes his role as the underdog.

pac-rios.macau.pc.130727.12.600w

“I am very nervous.” He quipped, “I’m not nervous about the fight, I’m nervous about speaking in front of all of you people.’

Rios turned serious a few seconds later: ‘I want to show the world, all those people who said bad things about me, those who said I’m a punching bag. They will see come November.”

WBO VP for Asia-Pacific Leon Panoncillo told philboxing and said that Pacquiao-Rios will be for the WBO international welterweight title but the World Boxing Organization will have a belt specially made for this blockbuster fight. Also on hand was WBO Pres. Francisco ‘Paco’ Valcarcel who complimented Rios who he described as someone who has the heart to match against Pacquiao. pac-rios.macau.pc.130727.09.600w

Hall of fame trainer Freddie Roach said that he was happy to be working with Manny again. “I have many great fighters in my gym but Manny is number one.”

Top Rank CEO Bob Arum described the fight as a historic event. “Who would have thought forty years ago that a congressman from the Philippines would be fighting a guy from California here in Macau?”

pac-rios.macau.pc.130727.07.500w
Living legend and two-time heavyweight champion George Foreman spoke on stage and described Pacquiao-Rios as a great battle between a guy who can punch really hard and someone who can take a punch very well.

The promotional tour will take the adversaries to Beijing, Shanghai and Singapore before returning to the United States for appearances in Connecticut, Los Angeles and New York.

By Chris Williams: Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40 KO’s) says he feels content with his 6th round knockout win over Filipino Manny Pacquiao last December, and he has no interest in fighting him again for a bigger payday because he feels he’s already proven himself by beating.

Marquez said to ESPN “I don’t think about that [fighting Pacquiao] anymore. Anything that was pending was settled in every way. If he would have knocked me out the way I did to him, how am I going to ask for another fight? Keeping that feeling is grandiose.”

Marquez is taking the right approach. Why bother fighting Pacquiao again when he’s already proven that he’s better than him in their four fights. Marquez got jobbed on the win in the first fight after out-boxing Pacquiao from the 2nd round until the 12th.

Marquez also was on the receiving ends of highly controversial decisions in 2008 and 2011 in fights that the boxing public had him winning.

It’s probably true that if Pacquiao had knocked Marquez out cold last December instead of the other way around, Marquez would be getting totally ignored by Pacquiao and his promoter Bob Arum in trying to land a fight with him.

Marquez will be fighting Pacquiao’s conqueror WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley (30-0, 12 KO’s) on October 12th in a fight on HBO at the Thomas & Mack Center, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The fight won’t bring Marquez nearly the kind of money that he made against Pacquiao, but he doesn’t care about that. Marquez wants to capture another world title and Bradley has the belt that he wants.

This is about Marquez’s goals and legacy. He wants to beat Bradley and take his strap to capture his 5th division world title.

Bradley took a lot of punishment in his last fight against Ruslan Provodnikov. He had better hope that his head has healed from that beating because if there are any lingering problems then Marquez will knock him out.

WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (30-0, 12KOs) admits that Manny Pacquiao’s offer of $6 million dollars for a November rematch is more money than he is expected to receive for the fall defense against former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1, 40KOs).

Pacquiao, who lost a controversial decision to Bradley last June, offered him a large sum for a rematch on November 24th in Macao, China.

Bradley was not interested in facing Pacquiao in Macao and he felt a victory over Marquez would mean more for his legacy. Marquez knocked Pacquiao out cold in the sixth round of their fourth battle in December.

“Sometimes it’s not just about the money. Sometimes it’s about making career moves,” Bradley told The Desert Sun. “This makes sense. It just makes sense. I think the styles make for an interesting fight and it’s a tough fight for both fighters.

“To be the best, you have to beat the best, and Marquez is one of the best fighters in the world. It’s right next to Floyd Mayweather when it comes to the best counter punchers in the game. I just want to take on one of the best, and that’s the reason I took on Marquez.”

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO- Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez will face off for the fourth time on the 8th of December in Las Vegas. The winner of the much anticipated fight will be crowned the World Boxing Organization’s (WBO) Champion of the Decade.

Sartonk Designs, the premier designer and fabricator of championship boxing belts in the world, was commissioned to create a belt for this one and only title. WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel stated today that he is “looking forward with great expectations to the extraordinary design created by the WBO’s Master Craftsmen, Ardash Sahaghian and Edward Majian, for the ‘WBO Champion of the Decade’ belt”.

He foresees that it “will be an outstanding work of art”.

The Champion of the Decade Belt is slated to be a luxurious rendition of the now classic world title belt. While true to the iconic WBO motif, some of its features include over 170 hand-set Swarovski crystals imported from Austria. The eagle that sits atop the center plate has been overhauled and made richer, with crisp detail and an assortment of jewels. A mirror-finished and crystal studded parameter elegantly completes the composition.

“We have surprises on the belt which we won’t unveil just yet,” commented Edward S. Majian, President of Sartonk Designs. “The opportunity to create a belt at the level of fine art is a privilege. Every crevice, curve, and corner has been detailed, and the belt shines brilliantly, symbolizing two men that have given our sport many brilliant moments,” explained Majian. His grandfather, Ardash Sahaghian, the 91-year New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame Inductee added, “We’re proud of everything that leaves SARTONK, but this is not just a championship belt. Is a piece that will be awarded once every ten years, this project is of a different character.”

The Champion of the Decade belt is set to be revealed in Las Vegas by the WBO before the Pacquiao-Marquez match.

LAS VEGAS — Manny Pacquiao appears headed for a fourth showdown with rival Juan Manuel Marquez rather than a rematch with Timothy Bradley Jr., Top Rank promoter Bob Arum said Wednesday.

Arum oversaw the final news conference at Wynn Las Vegas for Saturday’s Sergio Martinez-Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. middleweight championship fight, ate lunch and then dashed off to a meeting with Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz, who also is here this week.

The goal of the meeting, Arum said, was to lock down final terms for Pacquiao-Marquez IV.

“We’re having a meeting about Manny’s next fight and to get everything finalized,” Arum said. “My goal is to finalize the Marquez fight, but I have to meet with (Koncz).”

Pacquiao is due to return to action on Dec. 8. The HBO pay-per-view fight will take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, contrary to rumors that the fight would be held in Marquez’s hometown of Mexico City.

“It’s at the MGM,” Arum said. “The eighth is for sure. Vegas is for sure.”

The three candidates to face Pacquiao were Bradley, who won a highly disputed decision against him in June, Marquez and Miguel Cotto, who was stopped by Pacquiao in the 12th round of an action-packed welterweight title fight in 2009.

Pacquiao’s first choice was Cotto, who declined and instead made a deal to challenge junior middleweight titlist Austin Trout on Dec. 1 at Madison Square Garden.

With Floyd Mayweather Jr. out of the picture — for this year at least — that left Marquez and Bradley.

Pacquiao is 2-0-1 against Marquez in three action-packed fights that each ended in a storm of controversy over the scoring, with many believing Marquez had won all three fights — especially their most recent encounter. That was in November at the MGM Grand, where Pacquiao eked out a majority decision to retain his welterweight title.

Bradley pulled the upset on June 9 when he was awarded a controversial split decision against Pacquiao, which resulted in worldwide outrage over the scoring because most people had Pacquiao winning easily — except two of the three judges, Duane Ford and C.J. Ross.

Junior welterweight titlist Marquez (54-6-1, 39 KOs) and Bradley (29-0, 12 KOs) both wanted to meet Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38 KOs) again because he means career-high purses.

But there has been a divide within Top Rank and Pacquiao’s team on which opponent to select after Cotto turned them down. There also was Arum’s concerns over the cost of putting together each fight compared to the kind of $20 million-plus purse Pacquiao wants.

Some involved wanted to make the Marquez fight because it is, by far, the bigger pay-per-view event based on previous buy rates. The third fight last year sold 1.3 million units, according to Arum, substantially more than the approximately 950,000 sold by the Pacquiao-Bradley fight.

Pacquiao and Marquez also have a rivalry that has enthralled fans through three fights.

The 2004 featherweight championship draw saw Pacquiao knock down Marquez three times in the first round only for Marquez to storm back. In the 2008 junior lightweight championship fight, Pacquiao won on a split decision.

Arum said that if the deal is finalized before the end of the week, he hoped to launch the promotion next week with a news conference in Los Angeles.

Arum said Bradley likely would return against an opponent to be determined in November or December on HBO. Arum said he would like to bring Bradley’s fight to the Theater at Madison Square Garden to “expose him to the fans and media in New York.”

WBO junior welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez believes Manny Pacquiao is getting cold feet. Marquez claims Pacquiao is stalling to make a final decision on fighting him for a fourth time – because the Filipino superstar realizes that a fourth meeting would possibly derail a mega-money fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in early 2013.

Marquez, along with Timothy Bradley and Miguel Cotto, is being considered as the HBO pay-per-view opponent for Pacquiao’s return on December 1 or December 8. Marquez, and his promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions, believe they are sitting in the frontrunner position to fight Pacquiao.

If Pacquiao decides to fight someone else, like Cotto, then Marquez will defend his title against Bradley on November 10 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. But, if Pacquiao decides to fight Bradley – then Marquez will return in early December in Mexico.

“I finished a meeting in Tijuana with my promoter Fernando Beltrán and he informed me that Pacquiao is still undecided. What’s happening right now is they want Pacquiao to face Floyd Mayweather in April of the next year…..[in a fight] where each of them could earn a guaranteed purse of $40 million dollars. That’s why he is hesitated to make a fight with me, because he knows that if I fight him again – the big money fight can crumble. I can support that as a businessman, because it’s not always possible to get a big purse like that. But I can’t endorse that as an athlete because he’s avoiding another fight with me. He knows that I already beat him three times, and that I will beat it again,” Marquez said.

“As I’ve said, everything depends on Pacquiao. Moreover, he must make a decision in a maximum of ten or fifteen days, no more. If he decides against another fight with me, there is no problem. Then I will make a defense of my WBO world title on November 10 or in early December.”

Manny Pacquiao to fight in December not November – Boxing News

Fans of the Pac-man would be disappointed to know that Manny Pacquiao, former WBO welterweight titlist, has decided to run a showdown in December, cancelling his previously scheduled date November 10. However, the Filipino proud’s opponent is still to be decided.

Michael Koncz, Pacquiao’s adviser, revealed that the former champion’s reason for rescheduling his fight date was due to his political goals. According to Koncz, Pacquiao’s re-election campaign will start by October and he would need sufficient time to prepare for it.

“Manny has to be in the Philippines for the filing of his candidacy in October, and I don’t want to interrupt his training, nor does Manny,” said Koncz.

“If he fights on Nov. 10, it would interrupt his training because he would have to go back to the Philippines. You lose two days going there, and it’s a long trip in the middle of camp. We don’t want to have any excuses when he fights. I believe if he fought on Nov. 10 but made a trip at that time to the Philippines, we’d lose a week of physical training, and I don’t want there to be any excuses. So we can’t go on Nov. 10, and we have told that to our promoter (Top Rank),” he added.

Pacquiao lost his WBO title to American fighter Timothy Bradley on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. He currently stands with 54 wins, 4 losses, 2 ties and 38 knockouts in his portfolio. After the controversial split decision defeat to Bradley, Pacquiao has been planning to take on the Desert Storm in a rematch. However, no confirmation has been made from the Filipino’s camp regarding the situation.

On the other hand, Pacquiao’s adviser Bob Arum of Top Rank is hoping for the Filipino to go for either Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez or Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto. According to Arum, both of these fighters can attract more fans to the fight than Bradley can.

For now, it seems like Pacquiao is more interested in his political ambitions than his fighting career. He wants to bring reforms in his country and so he is giving his best there, which can hurt his fighting career.

Pacquiao must decide whether he will rematch Timothy Bradley for the WBO welterweight crown, take on Juan Manuel Marquez for the junior welterweight title, or hold off until early next year and fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a superfight worth a mountain of money.

But with so many options on the table, it’s hard to peg a possible match-up.

Originally, a Pacquiao-Bradley rematch looked certain after the controversial split decision shocker.

But then rumours surfaced that ‘Pac-Man’ promoter Bob Arum wanted Pacquiao to instead fight Marquez for a fourth time after beating him twice and drawing once.

But when holes in the Marquez plan began to sink the idea, fight talk shifted to a 2013 showdown against Mayweather in April or May.

Fans have longed for a Mayweather-Pacquiao fight but negotiations have always broken down and the luster has started to really dim in the wake of Pacquiao’s defeat and Mayweather’s incarceration.

Today, Pacquiao’s advisor met with Top Rank CEO Arum to discuss his next fight, but no details from the meeting have emerged yet.

In June, undefeated Bradley chose to keep the WBO welterweight crown and forfeit the WBO junior welterweight crown.

The decision pushed Marquez into the WBO junior welterweight throne.

Marquez, who had held the interim WBO junior welterweight title, has now reigned in four weight classes, half as many as Pacquiao. Each Pacquiao-Marquez fight was a slugfest and a close verdict.

In reality, either Marquez or Bradley appears to be more of a chance than unbeaten Mayweather, who has recently been released from prison after serving time on domestic violence charges.

Just stay patient.

WBO welterweight champion Tim Bradley’s #1 pick for his next fight is a rematch against former WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao who Bradley just finished beating last June despite having two hurt feet. However, with Bob Arum talking about Miguel Cotto or Juan Manuel Marquez for Pacquiao’s next fight on November 10th, Bradley says he’d be interested in facing Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Cotto next.

Bradley said to RingTV “If Manny Pacquiao doesn’t want to fight me, then I’m looking for a Floyd Mayweather fight. Or I’m looking for a Miguel Cotto fight.”

Well, it’s kind of not up to Bradley who he fights. He signed with Bob Arum of Top Rank, and he kind of will have to agree to fight with the guys that Arum can put fights together with, and I don’t see a fight being put together between Mayweather and Bradley, so he might as well forget about that one happening.

There’s a good chance that Pacquiao will take on Marquez next. In that case, Bradley-Cotto would be a good fight. However, Cotto doesn’t want to fight at 147 lbs anymore, and it’s unclear whether Bradley would be able to move up in weight to take a fight against Cotto unless it was a catch-weight variety fight. But Cotto might not be interested in facing Bradley, because Bradley’s last fight against Pacquiao failed to bring in huge pay per view numbers.

If Cotto fights Bradley, he would find himself in a PPV bout that brings in disappointing figures. Since the PPV buys are extremely important for fighters, Cotto might not be all that interested in facing Arum’s fighter Bradley. There’s no upside there for Cotto, and he might be hurting himself if he agrees to take on Bradley now if it doesn’t promise to bring in huge numbers. Cotto’s best bet is to try and get Pacquiao or Mayweather back in the ring. If not one of them, then he needs to go after a fight against WBC junior middleweight champion Saul Alvarez instead.

Zanfer Promotions President Fernando Beltran, who promotes WBO 140-pound champion Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39KOs) in Mexico, has a good feeling that Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38KOs) will select Marquez as the opponent for November 10th in either Dallas or Las Vegas.

Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum flew to Manila on Monday to meet with Pacquiao and finalize an opponent for the November date. In terms of business, Arum appears to prefer Marquez. Pacquiao has fought Marquez three times in the past and all three of their bouts have ended with controversy. Last November Pacquiao won a close majority decision in their third meeting.

The other two options include WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, who won a controversial decision over Pacquiao in June, and former three division champion Miguel Cotto, who Pacquiao stopped in the twelfth round in 2009. Cotto, who fights at 154-pounds and seems set to return on December 1 in New York’s Madison Square Garden, is the least likely option.

Now that a World Boxing Organization panel of so-called independent judges chosen by the organization’s Championship Committee has declared Pacquiao as a convincing winner after a review of  the tape of the title fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last June 9, what now?

Two of the three judges appointed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission — Cynthia Ross and Duane Ford turned in scorecards of 115-113 that helped Bradley win a split decision after the third judge CJ Roth had Pacquiao the winner 115-113.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who handles both fighters, condemned the decision and branded the three judges, including CJ Roth who had Pacquiao the winner, “three blind mice” and requested the Nevada State Attorney General to investigate the circumstances surrounding the decision and the fight itself amidst unsubstantiated speculation that it was a “fix.”

Two prominent US senators joined the fray and called for the creation of a single national boxing commission that would oversee the various aspects of the sport.

Democratic Majority Floor Leader Harry Reid, a friend of Arum and someone who obviously is grateful for Pacquiao’s last minute endorsement at a campaign rally in Las Vegas in which he urged Filipino-Americans to support Reid, and Sen. John McCain, who like Reid boxed in his younger days, used the bizarre decision in the Pacquiao-Bradley fight to win support for new legislation.

The WBO review panel’s scorecards should clearly bolster their efforts while at the same time raising serious questions about how NSAC executive director Keith Kizer could initially, nonchalantly dismiss calls for an investigation into the incompetence of the judges if there is no evidence to prove something more sinister.  Kizer’s position is understandable although seriously flawed because he recommended the judges who were eventually chosen from a pool of six nominees to do the fight.

Kizer informed us “the judges want to come in (individually) and review the bout and I want to watch it with them” and adds that “a judge re-watching a fight is always helpful (whether there is controversy or not).” The question is, what next?

WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel had, a few days before the fight, proudly handed Pacquiao a  Diamond Ring as the “Fighter of the Decade” in what might be considered an effort to  try and match the rival World Boxing Council’s Don Jose Sulaiman putting the first Diamond Belt on the line which Pacquiao won with a rousing 12th round TKO of Miguel Cotto.

Valcarcel sent the review panel’s scorecards to Kizer and broke it down systematically, which demonstrated their wide differences with the official fight judges scorecards. He pointedly noted “the results speak for themselves.”

Apparently they don’t speak loud enough since Valcarcel, in the same breath stated,   “There is no question of our respect and high regard for the official judges. Their integrity is not in question. However, it was decided that a review of the bout should take place with a panel of five confidential judges mainly to maintain impartiality.”

We subscribe to the appreciation of integrity as the quality of wholeness which was totally missing in this case.

Even a cursory reading of the scorecards of the five review judges and those of Ford, Ross and Roth show that the fight, to use Arum’s own words in dismissing any thought of a rematch, ” was not even close.”

Review judge No. 4 (since their identities have been kept secret at least for the time being) had Pacquiao winning by the widest margin, 118-110, while Judges 3 and 5 scored it for Pacquiao 117-111. Judge No. 2 had Pacquiao winning 116-112 which was our unofficial scorecard when we covered the fight with respected boxing commentator/journalist Atty. Ed Tolentino for The Filipino Channel of the giant broadcast network  ABS-CBN.

Judge No.1 scored it the closest at 115-113 but still had Pacquiao the winner which matched the scorecard of Jerry Roth.

A closer reading of the scorecards shows that all five review judges agreed unanimously that Pacquiao won rounds 1, 3, 5, 6 and 10 while all five agreed unanimously that Bradley won only the 10th round.

According to Arum, the investigation of the Nevada State Attorney General’s Office is being pursued as the Chief Investigator and the Deputy Chief Investigator visited him in his Las Vegas office on Wednesday. He said they  “questioned me about a lot of background things for over an hour.”

Arum revealed that they asked him whether he had any proof of criminality and he answered “None, absolutely none.”

This, taken together with the announced views of Valcarcel and Kizer point to a dead-end as far as unearthing any evidence of corruption or wrongdoing, which means there is no way the WBO or the NSAC will reverse the decision or even declare the fight a no decision which would enable Pacquiao to retain his belt.

Like all other efforts to right the wrongs in boxing, nothing is expected to come out of the posturing of the parties to a decision which we ourselves initially referred to as a high crime in Las Vegas where Sin City added one more sin to its list of wrongdoings.

The only glimmer of hope is that Senators Reid and McCain can muster enough support in the U.S. congress to get the much-needed reforms they seek and boxing badly needs, if it is to survive.

The only other alternative would be for Pacquiao to accept the realities of the sport in Las Vegas, return to the scene of the crime and exact vengeance not on Bradley because he had nothing to do with what happened, but to at least win by a knockout or TKO and deprive the judges of a chance to do more harm and send the three blind mice a telling message.

Pacquiao-Bradley Scorecard Analysis

CLICK ON THE LINK ABOVE TO VIEW OUR FINAL REVIEW OF THE MANNY PACQUIAO vs. TIMOTHY BRADLEY CHAMPIONSHIP BOUT!!!

A promised, we have now released our final review of the Pacquiao-Bradley fight. Inside the document posted above, you will find the 5 scorecards of the 5 WBO judges, along with the official scorecards of the fight. Later on, you will find a round by round analysis comparing: 1.) where were the WBO judges in total agreement and where were they divided, 2.) where were all 8 judges (5 WBO judges and the three official judges) in total agreement, majority agreement, or divided.  Comments are more than welcomed

The World Boxing Organization on Wednesday announced it has assigned five judges to re-score Manny Pacquiao‘s controversial loss by decision to Palm Springs’ Timothy Bradley in an effort to convince state commissions to widen the pool of judges for major fights.

Although many at ringside for Saturday’s fight gave Pacquiao between nine and 11 rounds, judges Duane Ford and C.J. Ross scored the bout 115-113 (seven rounds to five) in Bradley’s favor, and a third Nevada judge, Jerry Roth, had it 115-113 for Pacquiao in the WBO welterweight title contest.

WBO President Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel said five judges, from New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania and Puerto Rico, will re-score the bout and submit their work confidentially to the WBO, with the scores to be gathered by Monday.

Valcarcel said that armed with that information, he will submit to the Assn. of Boxing Commissions by its July meeting a request that state commissions such as Nevada’s work more diligently to bring in judges from outside their states for fights of the magnitude of a world title contest.

Before the Pacquiao-Bradley judges were assigned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Valcarcel said he submitted a list of 20 judges from elsewhere who could be assigned to the bout. None were chosen.

“We’re asking the ABC to make recommendations how a sanctioning body like ours can work better with a state commission, to use this experience to have better scoring in the future,” Valcarcel said.

Valcarcel said he is not considering stripping the WBO belt from Bradley, and will not order a mandatory rematch, because Pacquiao’s contract stipulates he would get a rematch if he lost the bout. In promoting the fight, Bradley had printed up a poster and ticket hyping Bradley-Pacquiao II on Nov. 10.

“This wasn’t Bradley’s fault, and we’re not saying there was any evidence of fraud or corruption here,” Valcarcel said. “That’s outside the scope of what we’re doing.”

He said he’s also not questioning the integrity of Ford or Ross.

“There are excellent judges available internationally, and they should be considered,” Valcarcel said. “We’ve done it here in Puerto Rico, bringing in judges from Nevada.”
