McWilliams Arroyo (12-1, 10 KO’s) will be active on the 27th of September in the San Juan, where the young fighter will defend his interim-WBO flyweight Latino title against a fighter to be announced.

“I do not know who the opponent will be but I will be active on that date. This fight is going to prepare me for a world title fight in early 2013,” said former Olympian.

Meanwhile, his twin brother McJoe Arroyo (10-0 and 5 KO’s) will be part of that card as well, fighting for a regional title fight against an opponent to be named.

“Those are the plans, fighting for a regional title. And in 2013 we’ll see if we’ll go for the world title but first let’s rise in the rankings,” he said.

37-year-old former two division world champion Rafael Marquez (41-7, 37 KO’s) will be taking a really tough bout for him on October 6th against former WBO super bantamweight champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. (21-2-1, 18 KO’s) for the vacant WBO International super bantamweight title at the Coliseo Ruben Rodriguez, in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Marquez, the younger brother of WBO light welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez, is trying to turn his career around after losing two out of his last four fights. Marquez was one of the best fighters in the bantamweight and super bantamweight divisions at one time, but his three wars with knockout artist Israel Vazquez took a lot of out of him as well as Vazquez. In November 2010, Marquez was beaten by Juan Manuel Lopez in an 8th round stoppage after suffering an injury in a fight he was losing. And then last year, Marquez was beaten by former WBO super bantamweight champion Toshiaki Nishioka by a 12 round unanimous decision in a fight that was fairly close. That fight showed that Marquez still has a little left in the tank even after all these years and all the wars he’s been involved with. Whether he has enough left to beat a young fighter like 28-year-old Vazquez Jr. remains to be seen.

Vazquez Jr. has had his own share of recent problems, losing two out of his last three fights. He was beaten by Jorge Arce by a 12th round TKO in May of last year in losing his World Boxing Organization super bantamweight title He then defeated Roberto Carlos Leyva by a 3rd round TKO, but was then beaten in his next fight against Nonito Donaire by a 12 round split decision last February in a failed attempt to recapture the WBO super bantamweight title. Vazquez Jr. showed in that fight that he’s still one of the best fighters in the super bantamweight division, as he gave Donaire one of his toughest fights of his career and could have beaten him if he had found a little more power to go with his great jab.

In addition to this fight, 37-year-old former two division world champion Ivan Calderon (35-2-1, 6 KO’s) will be taking on WBO minimumweight champion Moises Fuentes (15-1, 7 KO’s) for his World Boxing Organization title. Calderon, a former WBO minimumweight champion from 2003 to 2007, has lost two out of his last three fights after moving up in weight to the light flyweight division. Calderon has finally got a clue that that’s not a good weight division for him, so he’s moved back down to minimumweight and won his last fight against journeyman Felipe Rivas (12-11-1, 7 KO’s) in a 10 round split decision last October.

It’s not a good sign for Calderon that he had to struggle badly just to beat a journeyman level fighter, because the 26-year-old Fuentes figures to be a lot tougher than Rivas. It could be that Calderon’s game has slipped too dramatically due to his advancing age for him to still be the dominant force that he once was in the minimumweight division.

WBO junior welterweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39KOs) is waiting to speak with his promoter Fernando Beltran of Zanfer Promotions to figure out his next move in 2012. Marquez would like a fourth fight with Manny Pacquiao, who returns on November 10th. Marquez is one of the frontrunners to face Pacquiao in the fall.

If Marquez is unable to secure Pacquiao, he wants to defends one of his titles.

“I hope to talk to him at any moment, either in person or by telephone to find out who I’m going to fight, “Marquez said. “But I haven’t received any news. I want to close the year out by defending one of my titles.”

Marquez is willing to make the first defense of the WBO title at 140-pounds, or even drop down to 135 to defend his WBO/WBA titles. Marquez still regards himself as the WBA/WBO champion at lightweight.

“These [sanctioning bodies] have not informed me otherwise [that I’m not the champion at 135], so I consider myself the lightweight champion of these groups,” Marquez said. “In the ring, nobody has taken the lightweight crown from me.”

Former WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (24-0, 20 KO’s) expects WBO lightweight champion Ricky Burns (34-2, 9 KO’s) to move up to the light welterweight division now that Broner is moving up and has been promised the #1 ranking by the World Boxing Organization. Broner sees Burns vacating his title rather than risking a fight against him.

Broner told Fighthype.com “I was supposed to fight Ricky Burns [at super featherweight]. He went up. Now that I’m at his weight [lightweight], I think he’s going to 40 [140 lbs] now.”

Gosh, I hope Broner is wrong about this because I’d hate to see Burns move up in weight for a second time just when Broner is on the verge of finally getting a fight against him. Broner was hoping to get a fight against Burns last year when Burns was the WBO super featherweight champion. But just when Broner was ready to get the fight, Burns vacated the WBO super featherweight title and moved up in weight to the lightweight division. Burns picked up the WBO lightweight outside of the ring after the WBO stripped champion Juan Manuel Marquez and gave the strap to Burns.

Since getting the WBO title, Burns has defended it once against 34-year-old Paulus Moses in a 12 round unanimous decision last March. That wasn’t an impressive performance from Burns because he spent a lot of time clinching and trapping Moses’ arms to keep him from punching.

It’s going to be interesting to see if Burns does a repeat and vacates his WBO title now that Broner is ready to fight him again. I’d like to imagine that Burns will face Broner this time, but future events cast their shadows before. Burns might repeat what he did in the past and vacate the WBO strap rather than face Broner and risk getting battered and knocked out.

Burns is facing #1 WBO Kevin Mitchell next month on September 22nd at the Scottish Exhibition Center in Glasgow, Scotland. I figure Mitchell will lose this fight unless he can score a knockout. He’s going to be really up against it and I don’t see him walking out of Scott Exhibition Center with a decision.

FORMER WBO Asia Pacific super featherweight champion Jimrex “Executioner” Jaca has definitely learned his lessons the hard way in his 12-year professional boxing career.

After hopping from one manager to another and being labelled a journeyman, Jaca finally decided to return to ALA Boxing Promotions where his dreams of becoming a top boxer started.

Thanks to ALA Boxing Promotions, Jaca (34-6-3,19KOs) got a second chance to revive his boxing career by featuring him in the undercard of Pinoy Pride XV: Philippines vs. Mexico: The Rematch against Mexican Angel Martinez (13-2-1, 9KOs).

The Aug. 18 card will be held at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

Considered as local boxing’s prodigal son, Jaca promised to change that not so pleasant image.

“Not everyone know that I am not just a fighter. I also have a wife and a child to support. Yes, I have been criticized for being disloyal for jumping from one promoter to another, but I am thankful to ALA for giving me another chance,” said Jaca who left ALA Promotions in 2010.

“I have already apologized to Sir Tony Aldeguer and ALA Promotions President Michael Aldeguer for what happened in the past. They understood me and gave me another chance to prove that I can do it. And I won’t waste this opportunity as this could be my last,” said  Jaca.

It was found out in an interview that true enough, Jaca underwent some very tough times in 2010. His wife was having problems with her pregnancy resulting in several trips to the hospital. He kept these distractions to himself and never opened up. He and his wife eventually lost their child due to premature birth.

Now, the Negros Occidental-born boxer is getting a new lease on his boxing life and vows never to put this chance go to waste as he trains with renewed vigor for his Aug. 18 bout with Martinez.

A clash between 34-year-old former WBO featherweight champion Scott Harrison (26-2-2, 15 KO’s) and former EBU lightweight champion John Murray (31-2, 18 KO’s) is possible for the undercard of the Ricky Burns vs. Kevin Mitchell bout on September 22nd in Glasgow, Scotland.

It’s a risky fight for both guys, as Harrison hasn’t fought a high level opponent in seven years, and only recently make a comeback after a 7-year layoff, beating the inexperienced Gyorgy Mizsei Jr. by a 4th round TKO last June. Going from a fight against this guy to a bout against a young and tough Murray is going to be a very dangerous bout for the rusty Harrison to take.

The fight is also a risky one for Murray, because he’s lost his last two fights against Brandon Rios and Kevin Mitchell, losing both by knockouts last year in 2011. Another loss for Murray could sink his once promising career to the point where he’ll never be able to regain the footing that he had previously.

Harrison’s manager Alex Morrison told the telegraph.co.uk “Everything is in place and all that Scott needs to do is sign the contract. He won’t get a better or a quicker chance to become a world champion again.”

Morrison is right. If Harrison can blow out Murray in an impressive fashion, he’ll be in a great position to get a title shot against WBO lightweight champion Burns in what would be a huge fight in Scotland, as both fighters come from there. At the very least, it would give Harrison a nice payday no matter what happens in that fight.

The Murray fight should give Harrison a good gauge of where his skills are at. If he struggles to beat Murray then it suggests that he may be in over his head in a fight against Burns.

Zanfer Promotions President Fernando Beltran, who promotes WBO 140-pound champion Juan Manuel Marquez (54-6-1, 39KOs) in Mexico, has a good feeling that Manny Pacquiao (54-4-2, 38KOs) will select Marquez as the opponent for November 10th in either Dallas or Las Vegas.

Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum flew to Manila on Monday to meet with Pacquiao and finalize an opponent for the November date. In terms of business, Arum appears to prefer Marquez. Pacquiao has fought Marquez three times in the past and all three of their bouts have ended with controversy. Last November Pacquiao won a close majority decision in their third meeting.

The other two options include WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley, who won a controversial decision over Pacquiao in June, and former three division champion Miguel Cotto, who Pacquiao stopped in the twelfth round in 2009. Cotto, who fights at 154-pounds and seems set to return on December 1 in New York’s Madison Square Garden, is the least likely option.

ALA Boxing Gym trainer Edmundo Villamor said his ward, former WBO Asia Pacific Youth lightwelterweight champion Jason “El Niño” Pagara looks impressive in the final phase of training for his Aug. 18 fight against Mexican tormentor Rosbel “Lobo” Montoya in the main event of “Pinoy Pride XV: Philippines vs. Mexico—The Rematch” at the Waterfront Hotel in Lahug.

Villamor said that Pagara has immensely improved skill-wise and is very focused.

Montoya (34-1-4, 29 KOs), handed Pagara (28-2,17 KOs) his second pro loss last Sept. 10, 2011 will stake his WBO International light welterweight title against the ALA Gym star.

“He is doing great in training. He showed us how matured he has become and he is very focused. We can see how determined he is to win this fight,” said Villamor.

According to Villamor, Pagara’s power will be complemented by his new arsenal – his speed – which was been the focus of the entire training camp to counter Montoya’s relentless counter punching.

Montoya’s accurate counter punching was the reason he beat Pagara last year.

“We learned from our mistakes from the first fight and I assure they will not happen again. Pagara’s footwork is very impressive,” added Villamor.

Pagara is currently training to shed the extra six pounds to make the lightwelterweight limit.

“He is in great shape, his muscles are ripped and he told me that he is ready for his revenge,” said Villamor.

Also fighting in the explosive card are unbeaten Genesis “Azukal” Servania (18-0, 6 KOs) who will take on another Mexican Jorge “El Feroz” Pazos (20-3, 13 KOs) for the WBO Asia Pacific superbantamweight title in the co-main event and boxing’s prodigal son Jimrex “Executioner” Jaca (39-6-3, 19 KOs) who will battle Mexican Angel “Arcangel” Martinez (13-9-1, 9 KOs) in an eight-round non-title bout.

World Boxing Organization (WBO) World Lightweight Champion Ricky Burns and challenger Kevin Mitchell may be good friends, but that isn’t stopping them promise to put on one of the most brutal fights in recent years.

The pair clash in the big domestic showdown on Saturday 22nd September at the SECC in Glasgow, live and exclusive on the home of TV boxing BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546).

Two-time and two-weight world champion Burns will put friendship aside and be ruthless in the fight, “Come fight night once we step into the ring the friendship is over, this is business time,” he said.

Cockney scrapper Mitchell is looking to finally win the world title and is confident he can beat his friend, “You can’t beat Ricky’s personality, he’s a lovely man and a mate of mine. We genuinely get on well and there won’t be any trash talking. But once we get in the ring we fight, that’s our job. I’ve wanted this fight for a long time now and Ricky has given me the chance. I’m determined to win it, but I know I’m in for a hard night’s work.”

Here are some more boxers who have put fighting before friendship:

JOE CALZAGHE v RICHIE WOODHALL (WBO World Super-Middleweight title)

In the build up to their ‘Battle of Britain’ in December 2000, Joe Calzaghe and Richie Woodhall stopped off for a cup of tea at a motorway service station in-between press conferences. The fight was made harder as their fathers and trainers Enzo and Len were also good friends. That didn’t stop WBO World Super-Middleweight Champion Calzaghe putting on a vicious performance to stop Woodhall in the 10th round of an exciting battle at the Sheffield Arena.

KEVIN MITCHELL v JOHN MURRAY (WBO Intercontinental Lightweight title)

Before Kevin Mitchell’s mouthwatering domestic lightweight clash with rival John Murray in July last year, he said that he and Murray were good mates from their amateur days and came close to fighting then. They eventually met as pros at the Liverpool Echo Arena with Mitchell putting on his best ever performance to stop the previously unbeaten Murray in the eighth round to win the WBO Intercontinental Lightweight title.

Burns v Mitchell will be televised live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky Ch. 437/Virgin Ch. 546). Join now at www.boxnation.com

AJ Banal’s long wait for a second crack at a world title is finally over.

After months of tedious negotiations, ALA Promotions finally sealed a match that Banal has long been itching for as the hard-hitting Cebuano boxer takes on Thailand’s Pungluang Sor Singyu for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight title on Oct. 20 at the posh Mall of Asia Arena.

The highly-anticipated match dubbed as “Philippines vs. The World” will serve as the 17th installment of the highly successful Pinoy Pride series.

“The negotiation started in February. It was a back and forth negotiation. It took us so much effort and investment to pull this one off. It is quite an investment to bring this fight here,” said ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer in a press conference yesterday at the City Sports Club-Cebu Gym.

BAUTISTA IN THE UNDERCARD

Bringing the fight in the country wasn’t easy since the OneSongchai Promotions, the biggest boxing promotional outfit in Thailand, was also capable of hosting the fight, said Aldeguer.

The deal was only sealed last Tuesday night.

“We are still working on the undercard. We are looking at putting Boom-Boom Bautista in the undercard,” said Aldeguer.

Today marks the fourth year anniversary of Banal’s heart-rending loss to Panama’s Rafael Concepcion on July 26, 2008 where the latter stopped him with a 10th round knockout at the Cebu Coliseum.

That loss, his only defeat, showed that it will take more than a homecourt advantage for Banal o win a world title.

MORE MATUREThe 23-year-old Banal has 28 wins spiked by 20 knockouts, one loss and one draw.

“I am more mature now. That time, all I think was to knockout my opponent. I was over aggressive,” said Banal referring to his previous fight against Concepcion.

Against Singyu, Banal said he has to pace himself and prepare for a long haul.

“Stamina was my problem against Concepcion. I have been working to improve my stamina and pacing myself will be very important. I have been waiting for this and I will do my best to win the world title,” said Banal, who has strung up 11 straight wins since that loss to Concepcion.

Banal said playing in front of his countrymen also has its disadvantage.

“Sometimes I get overwhelmed with the crowd. So this upcoming fight, perhaps I’ll stay in the bleacher before my fight to feel the environment and get used to it,” said Banal, the reigning WBO Asia-Pacific bantamweight champion.

“We have watched two tapes of Singyu’s previous fights. He seemed vulnerable to body shots but we will further study his style. We are looking for a tape where he fought a southpaw,” said Banal’s trainer Edmund Villamor.

The southpaw Banal, who recently made it to the top 10 of Ring Magazine’s ranking in the bantamweight division, is the WBO world No. 1 bantamweight contender while Singyu is rated No. 2, making the upcoming fight a surefire hit.

The 24-year-old Singyu (42W-27KOs-1L) has beaten 14 Filipino boxers.

The orthodox Thai fighter has won his last 19 fights and hasn’t tasted defeat since losing to Stephane Jamoye via split decision in May 9, 2009.

Cecilia Braekhus, the WBO, WBA and WBC female welterweight champion came out blazing to score a unanimous decision over contender Jessica “The Hammer” Balogun (22-1) through ten hard-fought rounds of action at the Herning Kongrescenter in Herning, Denmark last night.

The judges scored the bout 99-92, 97-93, 97-93 in favor of Braekhus who exhibited much better boxing skills than her opponent. The previously undefeated Balogun, from Aachen, Germany, was a game opponent, however, who kept on coming despite Braekhus’ evident dominance. This led to some rounds that have been characterized as “messy,” but Braekhus’ superior ring generalship kept her in control of the fight to take the win.

Braekhus, a Columbian-born fighter who resides in Bergen, Norway, is considered pound-for-pound one of the best female boxers in the world. Her record stands at a perfect 20-0 with five wins by way of knockout. In recent outings she has defeated such boxing luminaries as Jill Emery (2011) and Chevelle Hallback (2011) with similar results.

The multitude of world boxing organizations is a cause for much confusion among fans of the sport around the world. There are many titles to go around in the jurisdictions of the World Boxing Association (WBA), the World Boxing Council (WBC), the International Boxing Federation (IBF), the International Boxing Organization (IBO), the World Boxing Federation (WBF) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO)

Then, there is Ring Magazine, the Commonwealth Boxing Council and the many offshoots of the world organizations. One has to constantly check to be updated who’s who in the various listings.

There is a great expansion going on in boxing. There are those who feel the sport is being watered down due to the many champions in each weight categories. Others point to the increased popularity of the sport throughout Europe, Africa and now Asia.

The case can easily be made that boxing now enjoys more worldwide prominence than ever before. No longer is North America, with the United States as the anchor nation, the dominant boxing area of the world.

Once to put on a really big boxing show, promoters had to go to Las Vegas or Atlantic City in the United States. In Europe, few major boxing events took place outside Great Britain.

Now, the rest of Europe has caught up. The Klitschko brothers (Vitali and Wladimir) show no interest in boxing in North America. They are huge names all over Europe and draw crowds wherever they fight even without the venue being in Great Britain.

There is indeed a more balanced world culture for boxing. The view here is that the WBO is doing a great job in feeding this diversity for the betterment of boxing. While other world organizations seem still to be concentrating primarily on North America, the WBO has a strong focus on Latin America, Africa, Europe and Asia.

Our very own Sherman “Tank” Williams is one of the beneficiaries of the new marketing template of the WBO. He now reigns as the supreme heavyweight over WBO Asia, inclusive of the vast China Zone of which the Macau Province is a part, thus the three titles he won recently from Chauncy Welliver.

According to the WBO website, the objective is to create substantive opportunities for more boxers.

“In the last decade, the WBO has established many regional titles, enriching the world of boxing with a variety of outstanding possibilities that allow the champions an opportunity to reach a world championship title. This variety enables boxers to achieve their goals and excellence, while reaching World Class statures”.

Thanks to the WBO’s world initiative, Williams now has a great opportunity to reach new boxing heights. Istvan Kovacs of Hungary is the chairman of the WBO. He and his associates are doing a wonderful job.

Bangkok Thailand – In what sure to be a good deed for children in the Kingdom of Thailand after the destruction of ravage flood waters which left half of the nation residents of Thailand homeless we at least had something to cheer about. The World Boxing Organization came in good that had put smiles to children’s faces after receiving their generous donation of Educational goods, bags, t-shirts, games and prizes on their five day program.

World Boxing Organization had again extended their hands this year to reach out to children’s of Thailand to stay off drugs. The difference this time was not the usual only one province that they had attended to as they had done couple previous years ago with drug free program, but this time had extended over-whelming generous gift giving for (12) twelve provinces at Thailand, Kalasin, Khonkaen, Nakornpankom, Buengran, Mahasarakam, Mukdahan, Royet, Loei, Sakonnakorn, Hongkrai, Hnongbaolampoo and Udon Thani to be exact.

The extra attention was due to the fact of the need of help after heavy flooding that took place at Thailand late last year that was a major concern for everyone especially for student that lost everything in schools as well as there home.

World Boxing Organization headed by Francisco Valcarcel wanted to do more for Drug Free program this year exercising extra funds to Thailand. The WBO WKDF program was surely a success and together with Thailand’s Narcotics Region 4 director Mr. Songkram Khamtonwong we where more then satisfied of helping out more then we could this year. Panoncillo informed.

The Office of Narcotic office, Region 4 helped us along the way to coordinate this special event. 19 schools attended this special gathering at Kaenloengjan Resort coordinated by Mrs. Vimana Wayteegul, the WKDF program first had commence on May 3, 2012 starting at Bannhongna Elementary School (Province of Kurat) directed by Mr. Sorawith Joomket, at Noonsoon District Nakornratchasima.

Providing needy children with educational supplies, special lucheon and games for ages 8 up to 14. They where given school bags, Educational books and money for individual child to help out their tuition for their school project, 450 students attended in that session.

Then after, WBO WKDF program proceeded to Kaenloengjan Resort on June 17, 2012 in a five day program which they provided for hundred of student accommodated and feed them through-out their stay.

There were daily student activities, such as educational games special project interacting with other students giving presentation on how they would pass along what they have learned during that five days about drugs.

Students were also given a special educational scholarship for each school district to continue on with their campaign of staying off drugs. Students during that five days drug free activity received student bags, No Drugs T-shirts, school supplies and money to help out their education.

Now that a World Boxing Organization panel of so-called independent judges chosen by the organization’s Championship Committee has declared Pacquiao as a convincing winner after a review of  the tape of the title fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas last June 9, what now?

Two of the three judges appointed by the Nevada State Athletic Commission — Cynthia Ross and Duane Ford turned in scorecards of 115-113 that helped Bradley win a split decision after the third judge CJ Roth had Pacquiao the winner 115-113.

Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, who handles both fighters, condemned the decision and branded the three judges, including CJ Roth who had Pacquiao the winner, “three blind mice” and requested the Nevada State Attorney General to investigate the circumstances surrounding the decision and the fight itself amidst unsubstantiated speculation that it was a “fix.”

Two prominent US senators joined the fray and called for the creation of a single national boxing commission that would oversee the various aspects of the sport.

Democratic Majority Floor Leader Harry Reid, a friend of Arum and someone who obviously is grateful for Pacquiao’s last minute endorsement at a campaign rally in Las Vegas in which he urged Filipino-Americans to support Reid, and Sen. John McCain, who like Reid boxed in his younger days, used the bizarre decision in the Pacquiao-Bradley fight to win support for new legislation.

The WBO review panel’s scorecards should clearly bolster their efforts while at the same time raising serious questions about how NSAC executive director Keith Kizer could initially, nonchalantly dismiss calls for an investigation into the incompetence of the judges if there is no evidence to prove something more sinister.  Kizer’s position is understandable although seriously flawed because he recommended the judges who were eventually chosen from a pool of six nominees to do the fight.

Kizer informed us “the judges want to come in (individually) and review the bout and I want to watch it with them” and adds that “a judge re-watching a fight is always helpful (whether there is controversy or not).” The question is, what next?

WBO president Francisco “Paco” Valcarcel had, a few days before the fight, proudly handed Pacquiao a  Diamond Ring as the “Fighter of the Decade” in what might be considered an effort to  try and match the rival World Boxing Council’s Don Jose Sulaiman putting the first Diamond Belt on the line which Pacquiao won with a rousing 12th round TKO of Miguel Cotto.

Valcarcel sent the review panel’s scorecards to Kizer and broke it down systematically, which demonstrated their wide differences with the official fight judges scorecards. He pointedly noted “the results speak for themselves.”

Apparently they don’t speak loud enough since Valcarcel, in the same breath stated,   “There is no question of our respect and high regard for the official judges. Their integrity is not in question. However, it was decided that a review of the bout should take place with a panel of five confidential judges mainly to maintain impartiality.”

We subscribe to the appreciation of integrity as the quality of wholeness which was totally missing in this case.

Even a cursory reading of the scorecards of the five review judges and those of Ford, Ross and Roth show that the fight, to use Arum’s own words in dismissing any thought of a rematch, ” was not even close.”

Review judge No. 4 (since their identities have been kept secret at least for the time being) had Pacquiao winning by the widest margin, 118-110, while Judges 3 and 5 scored it for Pacquiao 117-111. Judge No. 2 had Pacquiao winning 116-112 which was our unofficial scorecard when we covered the fight with respected boxing commentator/journalist Atty. Ed Tolentino for The Filipino Channel of the giant broadcast network  ABS-CBN.

Judge No.1 scored it the closest at 115-113 but still had Pacquiao the winner which matched the scorecard of Jerry Roth.

A closer reading of the scorecards shows that all five review judges agreed unanimously that Pacquiao won rounds 1, 3, 5, 6 and 10 while all five agreed unanimously that Bradley won only the 10th round.

According to Arum, the investigation of the Nevada State Attorney General’s Office is being pursued as the Chief Investigator and the Deputy Chief Investigator visited him in his Las Vegas office on Wednesday. He said they  “questioned me about a lot of background things for over an hour.”

Arum revealed that they asked him whether he had any proof of criminality and he answered “None, absolutely none.”

This, taken together with the announced views of Valcarcel and Kizer point to a dead-end as far as unearthing any evidence of corruption or wrongdoing, which means there is no way the WBO or the NSAC will reverse the decision or even declare the fight a no decision which would enable Pacquiao to retain his belt.

Like all other efforts to right the wrongs in boxing, nothing is expected to come out of the posturing of the parties to a decision which we ourselves initially referred to as a high crime in Las Vegas where Sin City added one more sin to its list of wrongdoings.

The only glimmer of hope is that Senators Reid and McCain can muster enough support in the U.S. congress to get the much-needed reforms they seek and boxing badly needs, if it is to survive.

The only other alternative would be for Pacquiao to accept the realities of the sport in Las Vegas, return to the scene of the crime and exact vengeance not on Bradley because he had nothing to do with what happened, but to at least win by a knockout or TKO and deprive the judges of a chance to do more harm and send the three blind mice a telling message.

MILAN Melindo could earn his long overdue world title shot soon as ALA Promotions sent a letter to the World Boxing Organization (WBO) to require Brian Viloria to defend his crown.
ALA Promotions sent a letter to the WBO two weeks ago after Melindo’s impressive first round stoppage over former world champion Jesus Geles last June 3. ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer is optimistic that the WBO will order Viloria, the WBO flyweight champion, and No. 1 ranked flyweight Melindo to face each other in a mandatory world title fight within the year.

“Based on the policy, the mandatory fight is due. Plus the fact that Milan knocked out Geles, who was rated in the top 10 of the WBO, strengthens the position of Milan,” Aldeguer told Sun.Star Cebu.
An order by the WBO should dismiss the possibility of a bout between the 31-year-old Viloria and undefeated Nicaraguan star Roman Gonzalez.
Aldeguer is interested to promote the probable all-Filipino clash between Viloria and Melindo. However, ALA Promotions won’t start the negotiations until he receives the mandate from the WBO.
“We would like to promote the fight. It should be staged in Manila, either at the Araneta Coliseum or the MOA Arena,” he said. “We cannot move unless there is a go signal from the WBO,”
Although at this point nothing is definite, Aldeguer hopes that Melindo’s shot comes sooner than later.
“It’s difficult to say but we hope to make it happen this year. But it will all depend on the WBO or the plans of Team Viloria.”
Viloria is 31-3 with 18 knockouts and has been riding on a five-fight winning streak, beating some of the elite names of his division in his last three fights like Giovani Segura, Julio Cesar Miranda and Omar Niño Romero.
