Glenn Donaire battles mexican Omar Soto for the NABO title in Tampa, Florida

Glenn Donaire still has the Eye of the Tiger. The older brother of “The Filipino Flash” Nonito Donaire is scheduled to collide with tough veteran Mexican Omar Soto in a 12 round clash for the vacant North American Boxing Organization (NABO) flyweight title on September 14 at the A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa, Florida, Glenn’s promoter informed PhilBoxing today.

“Yes, Glenn Donaire will fight on September 14 in Tampa,” confirmed from Miami Felix “Tuto” Zabala Jr., President of All Star Boxing Inc.

The 32 year-old Glenn “The Bomber” Donaire (19-4-1, 10KOs) born in General Santos City, Cotabato del Sur, Philippines, who has faced warriors of the caliber of Ulises “Archie” Solís and Vic Darchinyan, comes from a 12 round unanimous decision victory over Tijuana’s Omar Salado at the Auditorio Plaza Condesa last March in Ciudad de México.

Prior to that win, the reinvigorated Glenn Donaire captured the WBC interim Latino flyweight title by stopping Puertorrican journeyman Alex “El Nene” Sánchez in December of last year in Kissimmee, Florida.

On the other corner, Omar Soto, also 32 of age, born in Hidalgo, now residing in Ciudad de México, aims at getting back into the winner’s column after his defeat at the hands of the unbeaten Nicaraguan slugger Román “Chocolatito” González at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The experienced Soto (22-9-2, 15KO’s) has been Fecarbox flyweight champ as well as Mexican national champ, and has been in the line of fire some tough combatants in boxing’s lower divisions like the current WBO flyweight champ Omar “Huracan” Narváez of Argentina, Indonesia’s former champ Muhammad Rachman.

The A La Carte Event Pavillion, venue of the September 14 combat is located at 4050 Dana Shores Drive, Tampa, Florida. For information: +1 813.831.5390
