Boxing Contributes to Puerto Rico’s Recovery, Miguel Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Join Forces

It has been 4 months since Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria the effects are still being felt, over 450,000 people continue without electricity service, damages in infrastructure are evident in the majority of the territory, many lost their homes, their hard earned belongings  and sadly 60 people lost their life.

The recovery process is slow, slower than we would want, but we all have to contribute and help as much as we can in getting back to where we were and continue to move forward; that is the mission of the WBO and of other boxing entities based in the Island such as Miguel Cotto Promotions.

This Monday during a press conference held in the Courtyard Marriot in Puerto Rico, Miguel Cotto Promotions announced that it is joining forces with Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions to put together a series of boxing events that will be aired through ESPN; the first of them will happen March 24 at the Complejo Ferial de Ponce in Puerto Rico with undefeated Jose “Chiquiro” Martinez vs. Alejandro Santiago from Mexico as the main event of the evening.

The second date is scheduled for April 19 at the Jose Miguel Agrelot Coliseum also in Puerto Rico.

Having these events in Puerto Rico help activate the Island’s economy and creates jobs. The WBO congratulates Miguel Cotto Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions on this important venture and wish them great success.
