Hall of Fame promoter Frank Warren has issued a statement on making a potential unification clash between WBO lightweight world champion Terry Flanagan (30-0, 12 KOs) and WBA lightweight king Anthony Crolla (31-4-3, 13 KOs). “In simple terms, no barriers, no excuses, let’s get it done! The ball is now firmly in Team Crolla’s court. Flanagan is ready and I’m ready and our door is open,” stated Warren.

Quite simply, Flanagan v Crolla has to happen. when has there even been an opportunity to see two world champions from the same city, in fact the same school, attempt to unify their World titles?

Far too often, politics get in the way of making great events, now so more than ever before. During my 35 year career, I have co-promoted countless of events with major promoters in the UK and around the world, including Matchroom so I see no reason why this cannot happen again.

It seems the one stumbling block being flagged up by Matchroom Sport was the issue of the respective fighters rival broadcast platforms, Sky Sports, who televise Anthony Crolla’s fights and BoxNation, who televise Terry Flanagan. To get over this, as Terry’s exclusive Promoter, I am prepared to agree, subject to contract and the commercial terms offered by Sky, that Sky Sports Box Office, can have the exclusive UK broadcast rights to the event to make it happen.

This should ensure that the Sky Sports/BoxNation argument cannot be used as a smokescreen to prevent this fight from happening. I will not make counter offers to secure the event for BoxNation providing Sky Sports Box Office do not offer unreasonable terms.

I will agree to this if the following terms are accurately reflected in a contract:

The Event is staged by Queensberry Promotions Ltd and Matchroom Sport Ltd, on an equal 50:50 basis. All decisions regarding the event, including pricing and costs, must be mutually agreed.

The Event takes place in 2016 at the Manchester Arena.

Manchester Arena’s official ticketing partner, Eventim, receive the sole and exclusive ticketing rights for the event. No secondary ticket agents are permitted to be a sponsor, associate or partner of the event, such as StubHub and the like.

Each co-promoter is responsible for paying the purse of their respective boxers (i.e. Terry Flanagan to be paid by Queensberry Promotions and Anthony Crolla to be paid by Matchroom Sports) with an undercard to be mutually agreed.

This is an opportunity for both Terry and Anthony to earn career high purses, along with delivering a huge British unification clash for the fans. There is no reason why we cannot move forward on what are fair and reasonable terms for all involved and get this fight on, that is of course if they want it to.

Contrary to the opinion of a few people with their own agenda, no other fight for either fighter can deliver them the type of pay day and profile that is possible from this event. It has all the ingredients to be a special night and an historic one for Manchester. Two World Champions from the same City, same school and arguably the number 1 and 2 in the lightweight division putting it all on the line for local bragging rights. Add on top of that that one is a City fan and the other United. What more could you ask for?

Boxing fans have called for Promoters to put aside rivalries, egos and personal agendas and collaborate to deliver the best possible fights for the public. Here is the perfect opportunity to do this and I’m playing my part.

I am making this statement public to show boxing fans how serious I am about making this event happen. Neither the fighters, nor the public deserve to miss out on what will be a memorable night for British boxing.

In simple terms, no barriers, no excuses, let’s get it done! The ball is now firmly in Team Crolla’s court. Flanagan is ready and I’m ready and our door is open.

Merseyside maverick Liam Smith makes a hero’s return to Liverpool this summer to make the second defence of his WBO World Jr. Middleweight title against Montenegro’s Pedrag Radosevic at the Echo Arena on Saturday 4th June, live and exclusive on BoxNation.

Radosevic, who is number 11 with the World Boxing Organization and holds the body’s European title, is on a red-hot three-fight winning streak since losing his unbeaten record at the hands of WBA Super-Middleweight Champion Felix Sturm in July 2013.

The man from Podgorica in Montenegro holds a top record of 30 wins from 31 fights, 11 coming via knockout, in a career spanning 12 years. 31 year-old Radosevic will be looking to cause an upset on his debut on British soil and is a step-up in class for the undefeated Smith.

Scouse warrior Smith became Liverpool’s first World Champion in 22 years last October when he stopped American John Thompson in the seventh round to claim the vacant WBO Jr. Middleweight crown.

His finishing was as emphatic as his game plan. A brutal right-hand, left hook combination finished Thompson just past the halfway point in the seventh.

Following his sensational performance against Thompson, Smith returned to the Manchester Arena two months later to make the first defence of his newly attained title against Mancunian Jimmy Kelly on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders’ world title showdown with Andy Lee.

In the first Manchester versus Liverpool world title showdown in over 80 years, Smith blasted out his unbeaten rival with another seventh round stoppage. After emphatically announcing himself on the world stage ‘Beefy’ is now looking forward to making a hero’s return to his beloved home city.

Smith said: “I’m looking forward to fighting back at home. I haven’t boxed in Liverpool since I won the world title and I can’t wait to put on a show for my home crowd; there’s nobody better to fight in front of.”

Unbeaten WBO junior bantamweight champ Naoya Inoue (10-0, 8 KOs), 115, retained his belt in his second defense when he dropped #1 David Carmona (17-2-4, 6 KOs), 114, from Mexico, with furious combinations in the final session, had him on the verge of a knockout and pounded out a unanimous decision on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan. The official tallies were as follows: Eduardo Ligas (Philippines) and Sawaeng Thaweekoon (Thailand) both 118-109, Ramon Cerdan (Argentina) 116-111, all in favor of the 23-year-old defending champ. The referee was Eddie Claudio (US) who worked well to handle the fast-moving contestants.

It was such a one-sided affair that Carmona, 26, showed only his heart and durability against the formidable titlist. Naoya finally caught up with the game Mexican with a last surge, badly dropped him close to a knockout, but Carmona barely stood up and resumed fighting. Should the third man have been Richard Steele, it would have been halted even with some seconds remaining in the final stanza. But Carmona managed to last the distance as he gamely withstood Inoue’s continual and constant attacks. We truly praised his tremendous gameness.

The first round saw Inoue almost bring home the bacon with very vicious overhand rights to the face of the bewildered Mexican, who barely endured the champ’s opening attack with his high and tight guard. Utilizing left jabs to probe the cautious challenger in rounds three and four, Inoue took the initiative and scored with left-right combinations and solid left hooks to the face.

Inoue, in the fifth, went out for a kill as he furiously accelerated his attack upstairs and downstairs, sending him backward from pillar to post. Carmona showed his great endurance by covering himself up with both hands and attempted to fight back gamely. It’s Carmona that turned aggressive not to have the fight stopped in the sixth, when Inoue effectively retaliated with solid left hooks and right crosses with precision. The champ was also in command in the seventh, throwing good jabs and crisp rights to the side of the belly.

Only one round that Carmona apparently took was the eighth, when Inoue had the Mexican release punches to have himself on the defensive in order to find good openings to counterpunch with right timing. Inoue kept only jabbing without throwing solid shots in this session to save his energy and draw Carmona’s attack to have him open for counters. The eighth was also taken by the champ who kept throwing jabs and left-right combos against the shell-guarded Mexican.

The tenth witnessed Inoue become a Muhammad Ali, beautifully circling and jabbing with his swift footwork to attract the audience. The champ repeatedly landed strong rights to the side of the belly to have him wince upon his absorption. Inoue, though admiring Carmona’s gameness and toughness, patiently kept jabbing and landing one-two combinations to the swollen face of the challenger in the eleventh.

The climax visited in the twelfth and final round, when Inoue finally turned loose with all what he had, and battered Carmona from all angles and had him reeling to the ropes. Connecting with very solid combos, Naoya at last decked him on all fours. Carmona amazingly pulled himself up and kept on fighting without surrender, and the final bell mercifully came to his rescue.

The lopsided victor Inoue disclosed why he couldn’t show an expected finish within the distance, saying, “I felt pain on the right hand when I hit the head of Carmona hard in the second, and tried to hurt him even only with the left hand. But midway in the contest, probably in round seven, I also felt pain on the left hand, so I changed my strategy to throw more jabs and hit the body rather than his head made of stone. I praise his heart that enabled him to last the distance.”

The badly battered loser Carmona said, “I admit Inoue was stronger than I. He’s clearly the winner. His attack in the last session was so furious that I knelt down to avoid his punches and fought on in the remainder of the round.”

It was our disappointment that we failed to watch Inoue’s greatly anticipated victory by a knockout, but his fierce attack in the final round may prove his abundant stamina and power as well due to his youth and hard training with his father/trainer Shingo.

Inoue, regarded as a Japanese Wilfredo Gomez, failed to score all knockouts in his title defenses, as Bazooka registered seventeen defenses all within the distance. But it might be a good lesson for the young champ, just in ten professional bouts after his debut in 2012, that he faced such a tremendously durable opponent as Carmona. It was Japanese Fuji Television rather than Carmona that was afraid of Inoue’s too quick demolition and seemingly was happy to show nationwide the dramatic knockdown in the final session.

The sensational crowd of over 23,000 who watched WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire successfully defend his title with a dominating 3rd round TKO over No. 4 ranked former Hungarian Olympian Zsolt Bedak and the huge 25.4 TV ratings on ABS-CBN Channel 2 has attracted the attention of Top Rank promoter Bob Arum who had to skip the fight because of a bad back but sent executive producer Brad Jacobs to represent him and saw how ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN combined to present a world class event.

The result is Top Rank wants to continue to relationship in staging Donaire’s next title defense also at the sprawling Cebu Sports Center or in Dubai where ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN have staged highly successful “Pinoy Pride” events in the past at the International Trade Center.

However, if the next title defense of the five division world champion is staged in Dubai it will be at one of the larger venues in the United Arab Emirates.

The two possible opponents are both handled by Top Rank – WBO No. 1 ranked super bantamweight, unbeaten Jessie Magdaleno or undefeated featherweight Oscar Valdez who has a fight lined up for him on July 23 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena possibly against WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko which leaves Magdaleno as the possible challenger especially after he told Steve Kim of Boxing Scene “I would love a crack at Donaire next, “who’s record now stands at 22-0(16 KO’s).

Magdaleno said “I’ve been waiting for awhile and now that he (Nonito) has a WBO title, I want it even more.”

Magdaleno’s complemented Donaire as “a great fighter, I feel like he did what he did in boxing already and he put on a great show Friday night (when he beat Cesar Juarez to win the vacant title but I feel like his time is done and it’s time for the new generation to make their mark in the history books and in boxing and feel like that fighter who can do that.”

Magdaleno’s manager Frank Espinoza told BoxingScene.com that he and promoter Bob Arum had spoken about a possible title fight and they both liked the idea saying” I think Jessie is more than ready to step up at this point.”

Both Donaire and Magdaleno are promoted by Top Rank but Arum said that while he is more than willing to make the fight he has one condition that “We have to have a clear understanding and a program that (Jessie) is going to be able to make the 122 limit because his last three or four fights he’s been way over the limit and we can’t tolerate that.”

In his last fight on October 17th Magdaleno came in at 127.5 pounds stopping Filipino Vergel Nebron in one round and Arum insisted “I’m not going ahead with that fight unless I have complete assurances plus a plan, a nutritionist, that he’s going to make the fight.”

But the veteran promoter likes the idea of this match-up saying “I like the fight because it’s a fight that resonates in Las Vegas, both of the guys live in Vegas.” As for when Magdaleno fights again the 24-year old southpaw explained, “It’s in the works, right now.“

In a fight that was a lot tougher than the scores handed down by the judges, undefeated WBO World super flyweight champion Naoya Inoue (10-0, 8 KOs had to struggle to defeat #1 WBO challenger David Carmona (17-2-4, 6 KOs) by a 12 round unanimous decision on Sunday night at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan.

Inoue, 23, hurt the 25-year-old Carmona with a right hand in the 12th round, and knocked him down with a flurry of shots. Carmona was able to get back up and weather a storm of nonstop power shots to the head to make it to the final bell.

Carmona was fortunate the referee didn’t stop the fight because he clearly could have given how hurt he was and how he had stopped throwing punches in the last 20 seconds of the fight.

The final judges’ scores were 118-109, 118-109 and 116-111.

Carmona landed a lot of big shots in this fight, and was able to back Inoue up frequently with his heavy blows. Before this fight, Inoue had dominated his opposition and not had many problems. Carmona was a lot more difficult than any of the guys that Inoue had faced before. Inoue was pretty well bruised up by the end of the contest. The Ultimate cbd oil reviews trick.

It was a good win for Inoue but the fight showed that he’ll have a lot of problems if Roman Gonzalez moves up in weight to challenge him in the super flyweight division.

WBO super flyweight champion Naoya Inoue retained his title for the second time with a unanimous decision against top-ranked Mexican David Carmona on Sunday.

The-23-year-old Inoue went on the offensive from the first round of the second bout, making good use of his left hooks and straight rights and landing blow after blow to knock Carmona off balance in the fifth.

Although Carmona made a fight of it in the second half of the match, Inoue came up with more strong rights in the 12th round to the result beyond doubt.

Inoue, however, was less than happy about his performance.

“I have betrayed expectations spectacularly and I am sorry for that. It was an embarrassing fight,” he said. “Carmona was tough, he defended solidly and it was hard to break him down.”

Inoue has won all 10 of his fights, eight of them by knockout, and Carmona has 17 wins (6 KOs) against two losses and four draws.

There was a medical exam today (Thursday) for the forthcoming WBO/IBF world title doubleheader in Tokyo, Japan. The results were as follows:

To be frank with you, this reporter really realized the size of “Monster” Inoue at today’s medical exam. Every Japanese boxing people, including former world champions and influential promoters here, admit Naoya Inoue’s extraordinary talents in hard-punching, speed on food and hand, reflexes to avert punches of his opponent, and some describe him as the best ever produced in Japan, even including Fighting Harada, Kuniaki Shibata, Yoko Gushiken, Jiro Watanabe, etc.

Inoue, now still 23, has displayed tremendous performance in nine professional bouts and in sparring sessions (where he beat up almost every name partners including Yaegashi, Malcolm Tunacao, Yu Muranaka, other name Filipino boxers including Rocky Fuentes, Sony Boy Jaro, Rey Loreto, Giovanni Escaner, etc.). At this stage of his career we admit Naoya is superb and special enough to be called the best of the best in our Japanese boxing history.

But Inoue truly is small. He is only 5’4.5” in height and weighs only 115 pounds plus, though he usually weighs some ten pounds over the junior bantam limit. At this moment, Inoue, Japan’s Mighty Atom, may defeat Roman Gonzalez, Carlos Cuadras, and other champions un to the bantam category. But can he or will he be able to defeat Guillermo Rigondeaux, Carl Frampton and/or Leo Santa Cruz?

This reporter personally thinks it is very possible that Inoue, even now, can beat up and knock out Rigondeaux, Frampton and/or Santa Cruz. These boxers don’t master how to put the weight behind his punch, so they are all soft-punching pugilists depending only on fast combination punching, while Inoue can sink or finish his opponent with a single shot with precision.

But problem is his size. This reporter wonders whether Inoue will be able to defeat Adrian Broner even if Monster can punch much harder than Problem. Anyway, “Monster” Inoue will defend his belt against WBO top contender Carmona on Sunday and may try to demonstrate his tremendous talents against name opponents in the US, but there may be unfortunately a physical limit for Inoue to go over the wall.

This world title twinbll will be presented by Hideyuki Ohashi, former WBC/WBA world 105-pound champion and now promoter of Ohashi Promotions.

HOME is where the heart is for Donnie Nietes when he puts his World Boxing Organization (WBO) light-flyweight title on the line later this month.

The 33-year-old Filipino will be fighting in front of his provincemates on May 28 at La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod as the featured main event in the 36th edition of Pinoy Pride: A Legend in the Making.

It will be the first bout of Nietes in Negros Occidental since 2011 when he first wrested the 108-lb. title belt with a unanimous decision win over Ramon Garcia Hirales.

“Sobrang excited na,” said the proud son of Murcia, Negros Occidental about his impending homecoming just three weeks from now.

Incidentally, Nietes will be up against Raul ‘Rayito’ Garcia, the twin brother of Ramon Garcia.

Garcia, from Baja, California Sur, Mexico, packs a wallop as the 33-year-old southpaw challenger carries a 38-3-1 record, including 23 by KOs.

Currently on a five-fight win streak, Garcia has a common opponent with Nietes in Moises Fuentes to whom the Mexican lost by split decision in 2011. In contrast, the Filipino champion twice defeated Fuentes via a majority decision (Waterfront Hotel in Cebu, 2013) and by technical knockout (Mall of Asia, 2014).

“Pero siyempre hindi rin tayo basta mag-kumpiyansa,” said Nietes on Wednesday when he faced a select group of mediamen over lunch courtesy of ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports.

Nietes co-trainer Edwin Villamor said the camp of the longest-reigning Filipino world champion ever has repeatedly watched the tape of the Fuentes-Garcia bout.

“Magandang laban, parehong Mexicano,” said the brother of ALA boxing gym head trainer Edito Villamor. “Pero dun pa lang, may idea na kami kung paano siya atakihin.”

Nietes admitted being still 10 pounds over the limit, but sees no problem shedding off the excess weight.

He is already in the final phase of his training, having gone 12 rounds in sparring on Tuesday against heavier sparmates.

The champion’s camp will be in Manila until Saturday when they fly back to Cebu and resume training at the ALA boxing gym.

Nietes plans to be in Bacolod at least two weeks before the 12-round match.

The WBO title holder last fought in October of 2015 when he retained his title belt with a unanimous decision win over Juan Alejo in his first ever U.S. bout held at the StarHub Center in Carson, California.

Super bantamweight contender Jessie Magdaleno (23-0, 17KOs), 24-years-old, is going to apply pressure to secure a mandatory shot at WBO world champion Nonito Donaire (37-3, 24KOs).

After a brief stint at featherweight, Donaire dropped back to 122-pounds and captured the vacant WBO title last December in Puerto Rico with a very hard-fought decision win over Cesar Juarez.

He returned to the ring on April 23rd and made his first defense with a third round stoppage of Zsolt Bedak.

Magdaleno picked up three wins in 2015 and fought back in February, when he stopped Rey Perez in seven rounds.

Magdaleno has a tentative return date of July 16th and hopes to face Donaire in the fall. Both Magdaleno and Donaire are promoted by Top Rank.

While Magdaleno is ranked at number one under the WBO, four of his last five fights have taken place above the super bantamweight limit. Magdaleno has not weighed at 122 since January of last year. He fought at featherweight for his last two contests.

There have been concerns about Magdaleno’s ability to make the super bantamweight limit.

The fighter’s manager, Frank Espinoza, is confident his boxer’s issues with weight are a thing of the past.

“He’s working really hard right now. He’s very motivated. There were some issues outside of the ring, but all of that has been resolved. He’s very hungry, he looks great and he wants that shot at Donaire. Weight is not an issue. If the fight gets made, he’s making 122 no problem,” Espinoza told BoxingScene.com.

“Jessie will fight in the summer, but then he wants that Donaire fight in the fall. He’s ready to make a statement. Both guys are with Top Rank and there shouldn’t be any issues with making this fight happen. I heard Bob Arum wants to make another ‘No-Trump’ pay-per-view in the fall, with the pay-per-view fights involving Mexicans and world titles. A Magdaleno vs. Donaire fight would be perfect for that show. Jessie is ready to fight him anywhere…in Las Vegas, in California, at a senate rally for Manny Pacquiao in the Philippines. Wherever Top Rank wants it to happen, Jessie is ready to fight him and beat him.”

WBO junior welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford has commented on recent press reports regarding a dispute he had with the owner of a local auto body shop. Omaha police ticketed Crawford over the incident.

Two weeks after eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao scored an impressive unanimous twelve round decision in his trilogy with Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley and announced he was hanging up his gloves to pursue his mission of public service through election to the Senate in next month’s elections, Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire stepped up to assume Manny’s mantle of national sports hero by crushing former Hungarian Olympian and world No. 4 ranked Zsolt Bedak in three rounds before an ecstatic crowd of 25,000 supporters at the sprawling Cebu City Sports Center on a hot and humid Saturdaynight.

After an initial feeling-out round, Donaire connected with his lethal left hook to send the challenger who is himself known as “Mr. Left Hook” crashing to the canvas midway in round two.

With blood dripping from his battered nose, Bedak gamely got up only to be deposited on the seat of his trunks with another vicious left hook that had “no mercy” written all over it.

The bell mercifully saved the Hungarian Olympian who had lost only once before in his career as a pro in a title fight against Wilfredo Vazquez Jr who won by a 10th round TKO after Bedak who suffered a broken jaw in round two survived in a gallant effort for eight more rounds before he called it quits. Vasquez himself was dropped and beaten in lopsided fashion by Donaire who won the super bantamweight title at the Alamadome in San Antonio Texas some years ago.

It was clear the end was near as Donaire, cheered on by fight fans who had embraced him after his heroic battle against an unbelievably strong Cesar Juarez of Mexico to win the 122 pound crown for the second time following his crushing 6th round stoppage against the bigger, stronger Nicholas “Axe Man” Walters, chased the wobbly challenger and ripped into him this time with a cracking right hand that dropped Bedak for a third time giving renowned referee Russell Mora no choice but to call a halt to the massacre at 2:44 of the third round.

Despite a battered, bloodied face with blood dripping from his nose and mouth, Bedak assured media that he was fine.

Donaire won the hearts of the hometown crowd by speaking in Bisaya since the island of Cebu is proud of its language and boxing heritage. With this memorable performance, Donaire showed that he is indeed worthy of the monicker “Flash”, a name that was worn by Cebu’s favorite son and legendary boxer, Gabriel Elorde, the son of a poor farmer from the town of Bogo who was the longest reigning Filipino world champion until WBO light flyweight Donnie Nietes punched his way to surpass the record in January last year.

ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer who teamed up with lead promoter Top Rank and the giant broadcast network ABS-CBN told The Standard that the plan is to see whether Donaire’s next title defense could also be staged in the Philippines in the face of the massive support from Filipino fight fans looking for someone to carry the torch for Philippine boxing.

 I CAME HERE TO BOX, that’s what challenger Zsolt Bedak (left), a technical former Olympian, said about his fight tomorrow with WBO super bantamweight title holder Nonito Donaire Jr. He said the match will go 12 rounds. However, for Nonito Donaire Sr., the trainer of the champion, the fight will end with Bedak’s knockout in the sixth round.

A visibly pumped Nonito Donaire Jr. is drawing energy from the home crowd, hoping for an explosive finish against challenger Zsolt Bedak in his first defense of the WBO super bantamweight title at the Cebu City Sports Center.

“I feel like there’s a fire burning inside me. Dako kaayo akong pasalamat sa mga tawo, I am very motivated because of the crowd,” the defending champion said after hitting 121 and 3/4 pounds in his first try at the official weigh-in today.

Donaire, a five-division champion with a 36-3, 23KO record, is making his first title defense of the belt he won against Cesar Juarez in his first fight in Cebu.

Zsolt Bedak, who is 25-1 with 8KOs, also made the limit easily at 121 and 1/2 pounds. He expects the fight to go the distance as he came prepared to last 12 rounds against the champion.

KNOCKOUT WIN

However, for Nonito Donaire Sr., the trainer of the champion, he sees the fight ending as early as the sixth round.

“I think it will be until the sixth round only,” said Donaire Sr.

Though he said his son is no longer looking for that one-punch KO, he still sees a knockout win.

“It’s not like before that he’d go in and throw a punch. We will be looking at combos, straight,” he said. “If you feint, Bedak covers up.”

The elder Donaire sees the fight ending in the later rounds should Bedak opt to hold and run, but said the technical former Olympian is perfect for his son.

Bedak ‘won’t be running’

“I like a fighter who throws a lot of punches, because that’s when you can see an opening,” said Donaire Sr.

However, the challenger said he won’t be running come fight night.

“I didn’t come here to put up my hand and run, I came here to box,” he said. “It’s going to go 12 rounds, we prepared for 12 rounds. It’s going to be a decision.”

Bedak has won his last 10 fights since losing to Coliseo Rodriguez in their WBO super bantamweight title bout.

Meanwhile, ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer expects a crowd of 30,000 for tomorrow’s bout, eclipsing the 24,000 who saw Z Gorres’ fight against Fernando Montiel.

By Dan Ambrose: Undefeated #1 WBO Gilberto “Zurdo’ Ramirez (34-0, 24 KOs) won a surprisingly easy 12 round unanimous decision victory over WBO super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham (44-5, 29 KOs) to become the first Mexican to win the 168lb world title in their fight on HBO Boxing PPV from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The final judges’ scores were an identical 120-108, 120-108 and 120-108.

I didn’t agree with those scores. I had Abraham winning three rounds in the fight. The judges didn’t give Abraham much credit. However, it was a very one-sided fight though, as the 6’2 ½” Ramirez was simply too tall for the shorter, older 5’9” Abraham.

Ramirez was constantly moving around the ring, peppering Abraham with jabs and hooks the entire three minutes of every round. When Abraham did land some solid shots, Ramirez was sure to fire back with counter shots.

In the 2nd round, Ramirez hurt Abraham with a left to the head that had him holding on. It was a good shot from Ramirez that caught the 36-year-old Ramirez when he was coming forward trying to land one of his own shots.

Ramirez nailed Abraham with a clubbing right hand to the head in the final seconds of the 4th round, and then gave him a hard shoulder when he attempted to come forward to retaliate with a punch of his own. It was a good move by Ramirez, but clearly a dirty move on his part. The referee didn’t do anything about it other than warn Ramirez.

In the 5th round, Ramirez hit Abraham with a hard low blow while he was coming forward. The action stopped for a bit while Abraham recovered. Before the round ended, Ramirez nailed Abraham with a rabbit shot to the back of the head. Ramirez was clearly getting dirty in this round, but Abraham kept his cool and didn’t start getting dirty with his own rough stuff.

Abraham landed two solid left hands to the head of Ramirez in the 6th round that drove him to the ropes. That was arguably Abraham’s best round of the fight, even though Ramirez still landed more punches.

From the 7th round on, Ramirez began to move much more around the ring, changing directions and throwing light hooks. The constant movement and incoming punches kept Abraham from being able to set his feet to throw his own power shots.

Ramirez dominated the last four rounds of the contest with his movement and high volume shots. Abraham looked defeated by that point in the fight, and he wasn’t trying hard to land anything the way he needed to.

Overall, it was a good effort from Ramirez. He boxed well, and kept out of the way of Abraham. It was kind of boring to watch, however. Compared to some of the more entertaining super middleweights in the division, Ramirez is decidedly boring due to all the movement that he uses. If his promoter Bob Arum wants to turn him into a star, he’s going to need to keep him a little more stationary because the constant movement is not interesting to watch. When you compare Ramirez’s performance to the other fighters on the card like Oscar Valdez and Jose Ramirez, he was very dull to watch.

Arum wants to lure IBF/IBO/WBA middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin up to super middleweight so that he can fight Gilberto Ramirez. I don’t see that happening ever. Ramirez is a very, very big super middleweight who could clearly fight in the light heavyweight division if he wanted to.

It’s been nearly five years since WBO world super middleweight champion Arthur Abraham fought outside of Germany, where he’s made his home for most of his life.

His last boxing venture abroad was at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California, where he lost to Andre Ward via unanimous decision. It was his third loss in four fights, but Abraham rekindled his career by setting up shop in Germany and becoming the fighter to beat in the super middleweight ranks.

With his reputation in Europe firmly established, the Armenian-born Abraham is returning to the United States for a high-profile title defense on the undercard of the Manny Pacquiao vs. Timothy Bradley Jr. rubber match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Undefeated up-and-comer Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez will be looking to dethrone the battle-tested Abraham, who presents by far the toughest challenge of his promising career. The 24-year-old is looking to become the first Mexican boxer to win a super middleweight title.

“That’s why you work so hard,” Ramirez told ESPN.com’s Dan Rafael through a translator. “You don’t want to just be a guy. You want to be a special fighter. The opportunity to be the first Mexican super middleweight champion is added motivation for me. It really means a lot.”

WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire is improving with every training session as he prepares for his title defense against former Hungarian Olympian and world No. 4 ranked Zsolt Bedak at the Cebu Sports Center on April 23.

The father/trainer of the former five division world champion, “Dodong” Donaire Sr told BoxingScene.com/Tthe Standard that Nonito “is getting better and better every week.”

He said he sparred eight rounds with unbeaten Michigan featherweight, 25 year old Raeese Alem who he said “fights like Bedak and is very fast” and Nonito looked “very good.”

The father/trainer told us Nonito “is getting in shape, going down in weight and instead of slowing down he’s getting so much better. His speed and power is there. He’s going to be fine.”

Dodong” Donaire  said they have been watching tapes of Bedak’s fights and they would do more in the days ahead.

Team Donaire is scheduled to arrive in Manila next Monday and will resume sparring on Tuesday at the Wild Card Gym of the late Rod Nazario in BF Homes, Paranaque on Tuesday and have chosen super featherweight Virgil Puton of General Santos City with whom Nonito sparred before, as sparring partner.

The 26 year old Puton who is trained by Jun Arlos has a record of 16-7 with 7 knockouts.

With Nicholas Walters continuing to waffle on a June 11th showdown against Vasyl Lomachenko (5-1, 3KOs), a new name has emerged to face the left-handed stylist from the Ukraine on this date.

A source has informed BoxingScene.com that current WBO 130-pound titlist  Roman ‘Rocky’ Martinez is now in the mix to face Lomachenko, who is interested in moving up in weight and fighting for a major world title.

Martinez does make sense that not only does he hold a major belt but he’s also Puerto Rican and this fight would take place at the Madison Square Garden in New York City – the day before the Puerto Rican Day Parade.

Martinez, a rugged brawler, is coming off a pair of hellacious bouts against Orlando Salido in 2015.

He was initially scheduled to face Miguel Berchelt earlier this month in Mexico, but withdrew with a hand injury. Berchelt went forward, capturing a vacant WBO interim-title with a knockout of George Jupp of the UK.

According to Puerto Rico Best Boxing, who promote Martinez (29-3-2, 17 KO’s), the champion needed to take a break from training for at least four weeks – which gives him more than enough time to be healthy and fully prepared by the June date.

Lomachenko was last seen in November, when he knocked out Romulo Koasicha in the tenth round on the Tim Bradley-Brandon Rios undercard from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
