Tanaka vs. Rodriguez Fight Cancelled: Rodriguez Fails to Make Weight

Tokyo, Japan – Kosei Tanaka’s anticipated WBO junior bantamweight title defense has been called off following Jonathan Rodriguez’s failure to make weight. The clash, scheduled for Saturday, July 20,  in Tokyo, was scrapped after Rodriguez tipped the scales a staggering 6.25 pounds over the limit.

Tanaka, hailing from Japan, diligently weighed in at 114.8 pounds, adhering to the stipulated requirements for the championship bout. In stark contrast, Rodriguez, representing Mexico, registered a hefty 121.25 pounds on the scale, rendering the contest untenable under boxing regulations.

The cancellation marks a disappointing turn of events for boxing enthusiasts eagerly anticipating the showdown between Tanaka (20-1, 11 KOs) and Rodriguez (25-2,1, 17 KOs).

In the same card, Riku Kano (22-4-2, 11 KOs) (Japan)  and Anthony Olascuaga  (6-1, 4 KOs) (USA) meet for the vacant WBO Flyweight title.
