World Boxing Organization light flyweight champion Donnie Nietes is more than ready to follow in the footsteps of “Fighter of the Year”  Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire and undergo random drug testing.

Nietes who defends his title against tough Mexican challenger Moises Fuentes at the Waterfront Hotel & Casino in Cebu on Saturday said in a statement that he is “proud to be with him (Donaire) in his quest for a drug-free fight game.”

In fact  Nietes, one of the longest reigning world champions in recent years said he is prepared to even undergo drug tests prior to his title defense on Saturday in a fight card on the highly successful “Pinoy Pride” series to be telecast by ABS-CBN over its pre-eminent Channel 2 on Sunday at 10:15 a.m.

Donaire’s voluntary agreement with VADA, the Volunteer Anti Doping Association for year-round random drug tests caused a testy situation in terms of his unification title fight against WBA super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux.

The two-time Cuban Olympic gold medalist who initially agreed to VADA testing failed to provide his address or telephone number so the VADA people could conduct the tests.

However, he’s now provided the details and the fight which Donaire threatened to call off, is pushing through at the Radio City Music Hall in New York on April 13.

Meantime Nietes is winding down his preparation for the Fuentes title defense. He is reportedly in superb condition and ready to rumble.
